Who I Am Wednesday - A little info

Bridget over at Tales of Me and the Husband had a few questions for her readers on Monday,
so I thought I would answer them here so you can see my answers.

Where you from?! Where do you live now?
- I'm from Mackay, QLD originally, but I live in Hobart, TAS now-

Male/Female? Age?
- Female, 21 -

How'd you discover my blog? Long-time reader? New?
- I can't remember exactly how I came across Bridget's blog...but it was her & Steve's love story that really caught my attention. I've stayed around ever since -

What do you do? for work? for fun?
- I'm hopefully just about to graduate. I'm currently a babysitter and pizza delivery driver. I want to be a teacher and I have the most fun when travelling the world -

Are you religious? Atheist? Something in between?
- I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...or Mormon. -

What's your favourite song? Band? Book?
- I don't really have a favourite one of any of these. My favourites depend on the mood I'm in. The song Landslide by the Dixie Chicks is a personal favourite...and I am currently reading the Harry Potter series and enjoying it more than I thought I would. -

What's your favourite vacation spot?
- I've been lucky enough to travel a fair bit with my family, and a little on my own. I'd probably say my favourite trip has been Japan. Just because it was so different and a good chance to use my language skills. -

What would you like to see more of on the blog? 
- I think blogs should be whatever the blogger wants it to be. But if you've got suggestions, feel free to let me know. It's always good to write on different things. -

Are any of you famous?
- I am not. Though I'm glad I'm not, because who wants people stalking you all the time...no thanks!

Who I am Wednesday...A Pizza Delivery Chick

How did I become a pizza delivery chick?

Well one day I got a text from my friend to see if I was available for the night to help out because they were really short staffed. Since that night, I've just had the job.

I am the only female driver...at first it was weird. Now I'm kinda just one of the guys. 

I worked hard to get in with those boys! 

I have had some very interesting, awesome and completely horrible experiences.

The most interesting occasion was when a man answered the door in only a pair of pink underwear. His friends in the lounge room thought it was hilarious. I remained composed until I had walked away. He was seriously gross and I have so far not needed to go back. 

I wonder if he'll be fully clothed the next time!

The absolute worse time I had while delivering was when I couldn't find the number apartment I was looking for and knocked on the closest door to where I thought it was. WORST mistake EVER!! The guy who answered slammed the door in my face, then proceeded to swear and throw things at the door after I had left. Then I managed to find the place and while walking back out to my car, the guy yelled something out I couldn't hear and then death stared me as I drove away.

It has been the only time that I have genuinely felt scared. 

I have also had some amazing experiences:

- One guy said to me as I left "Nigh Nigh"....ummmmmm

- I met one of the cutest puppies the other day. It was just SO cute! And friendly!

- Another dog I met was a boxer, like my parents have, and it was adorable. It was trying to get to me through the window, in a sweet way. He just wanted to say hello.

- There is one guy who always just gives whatever change is in his pocket as a tip. One time it was almost $10. He's also really nice! 

- Kids that answer the door are hilarious. They are so excited for pizza they jump and try to take it off me. ha ha 

These are just a few of the stories I have. Before I leave each time I never know what it's going to be like. Well except for a few of the regular people I seem to get. 

What's funny is that I am the 3rd one of my siblings to deliver pizzas. Both my older brothers did it at one point. I guess it's kind of a family thing. 

Who I am Wednesday...I'm a Mormon

Today is a little different. I am still doing my post but you will find it over at Anna's blog.

We've swapped blogs for the day.

Anna is also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as Mormons.

We both grew up in Mormon families and so we decided to talk about it was like growing up in the faith.

Hello! I’m Anna from The Days When I’m Not a Nurse!

I’m a 23 year old currently stuck living in Idaho and I’ve been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my whole life.

Religion is one of those things I never really expected to blog about. It’s one of those sensitive topics…like politics. Or money. Or war.

According to the internet (because the internet is always right), the way to bring up a sensitive topic is to say things like, ‘I need to talk to you for a minute,’ or ‘there’s something you should know.’

So, readers… Can I talk to you for a minute? (Ha. I just think it makes it more awkward.)

 I’m a Mormon. 

Where's Waldo Anyone?

This is my family. I’m the youngest of eleven children. I’m an aunt thirty-three times over.

At this point you’re probably saying something like, ‘bless your mom’s heart.’ I couldn’t agree more. I don’t feel like growing up Mormon was that different: it meant 3 hours of church every each week, no dating until 16 yrs old, early morning seminary through high school, spending spring break at the family history center in Salt Lake City, no cussing/smoking/drinking, and chili/popcorn on Sundays. Ok, the last one was just a weird family quirk; it had nothing to do with Mormons.

My parents did an excellent job teaching us to love each other. For example, as children, if we did something mean to a brother/sister, our punishment was to name 5 nice things about the other person. It was hard sometimes (and probably a little insincere) but it put the focus back on positive qualities. Somehow we all formed friendships to some degree and now, as we’re all older, we still get together at least once a year and reconnect. Since we believe that families can be together forever, we better get used to it now. :)

Married since 2008

I met husband through singles ward at church. He grew up in a Mormon family too. You know how great it is to automatically have something in common with the cute boy you’ve got your eye on? And part of growing up as a Mormon, you’re taught the importance of marriage. This quote from one of our church leaders sums it up nicely: “Latter-day Saint spouses should do all within their power to preserve their marriages…they should be best friends, kind and considerate, sensitive to each other’s needs, always seeking to make each other happy.” (Dallin H. Oaks)

Here’s the most important thing I’ve figured out in my years of being a Mormon:

I like who I am.

I like the kind of person I’ve become, and it’s all thanks to the way I was raised and the way I live my life. I’m happy. Content. I’m thankful for the experience of growing up in a Mormon family and for what it’s done for me. I couldn’t imagine myself any other way.

Who I Am Wednesday...a Stat Checker

I will admit that I am terrible at constantly checking my blog stats and basically most things to see where my progress is at.

It can be a problem...it can also be helpful.

This month however I am not going to be checking my blogs statistics page. It's going to be hard, but I think it's going to help me focus on what I'm writing more and to just let go of it.

I am kinda looking forward to seeing how things are at the end of the month and the ride it's going to be.

So here's to admitting things you do constantly...and might need to change...and rolling with what life has to offer.

Welcome to February!

*Also I keep checking this page to see how the fundraising for Lisa King and her family is going and I am so happy to announce that almost every time it has gone up. They have even had to keep increasing the 'total'. It's nice to see that people are still willing to help each other out in a great time of need. 

Who I am Wednesday...a book worm

There...I said it.

I have a love of books! 

I know there are plenty of others out there who love them too...don't deny it.

I love being engrossed in a story and staying up all night reading.

That happens a little too often. 

The latest series I just finished was The Hunger Games Trilogy.

I absolutely LOVED them! I wish there was more, but I also have a love/hate relationship with the end.

Now I am reading The Time Traveller's Wife

It's interesting so far...we'll see where it goes from here. 

I hate when a book seems like it's gonna be good and then it turns out to be bad.

It is just a disappointment.

Thankfully I have some good friends that keep me supplied with good reads.

However, does anyone else out there have any good suggestions for me too??

Who I Am Wednesday

I am a sister

To these four awesome people:

Erin, Adam, Ryan, Me and Rhys
At the temple for the first time all together

I'm glad that now we are all older we get along more. Yeah we fight, just like most siblings.

But we also love each other :D

Erin:

She's the oldest of our bunch. She and I are exactly 7 years apart. So sharing a birthday wasn't much fun growing up because we would fight. But when I was in America last year for my birthday it freaked me out not sharing it with her. She is a very talented singer and loves the Wizard of Oz.

Adam:

He is the 2nd oldest. Bit of a rebel in his younger days. Now he is the father of 2 gorgeous children and he does a great job. He likes to go cycling and sailing. We both love the Smurfs. He works in my dad's pharmacy and is married to Janita (Jay).

Rhys:

The middle child. He served a mission for our church in Kiribati for 2 years. He is over 6 foot tall. Luckily he lives down here with me so I get to see him fairly often. He has been married for 8 months. He currently works as an orderly and is married to Amy. Hopefully supplying some more nieces or nephews soon!! A girl can dream :D

Ryan:

He is the baby of the group. Always full of funny things to say. Farts too much and thinks it's hilarious! He plays the guitar, very well I might add. He is going to be a pharmacist like our dad. We nearly lost him in a car accident just before his 7th birthday. Definitely glad to still have him around :D 

I also have a half sister Tammy who was adopted before my parents met and while I don't get to see her often, when we do it is a lot of fun and we have a ball.

Waiting in heaven in also a younger sister of mine. I didn't get to spend this earthly life with her, but I look forward to meeting her in the next life and love her dearly.

Then there are the in-laws:

Jay:

Married to my brother Adam and the mother of my niece and nephew. Also a Smurf lover and a fellow Queenslander. Really good at drawing, as well as making and decorating birthday cakes.

Amy:

Married to my brother Rhys. Mother to Fross...her beloved dog. Obviously also lives here so I get to see her a fair bit too. She is a nurse and a darn good one at it. She also likes to play badminton when she can.

Can't wait for my sisters and little brother to get married to add more to the clan...oh and one day my own husband of course :D

I love them all so much!! I can't even begin to describe how much!!

Who I Am Wednesday

Welcome to my new series!

It's not going to be weekly like the Gratitude Sunday Series, but when it does happen it will be on a Wednesday. 

So the gist of the series is all about Who I am. The many roles I have and essentially what makes me Who I am. We are so many things, to so many people.

There will potentially be an opportunity later to get to know who some of you are.

I also will be posting occasionally the I'm a Mormon messages.

I am a Student

FYI: No I don't talk to my lecturers/tutors like this...promise!

I have been a student since I was 5 years old...ahhh the good and bad things that come along with it :D

Currently being a student is very stressful.

However, even though I am finding it hard to be motivated, I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to be able to study and learn.

At University I study Japanese and Asian Studies in a Bachelor of Arts and hope to be a high school teacher one day by completing a Masters of Teaching.

I have also studied Politics, French and Family History while at Uni.

I should *fingers crossed* graduate in the middle of next year :D
